All physiotherapy assessments and treatments are provided solely by patrick mayne, registered physiotherapist. No services are delegated to physiotherapy assistants.



  • SUBJECTIVE ASSESSMENT: Patient history (present complaint, medical history, medication) Previous Injuries, Nature of Pain, Aggravating/ Easing Factors, Functional Impairments, Impact of Injury on Quality of Life, Patient GOALS
  • OBJECTIVE ASSESSMENT: Measurements of Gait Analysis, Range of Motion, Strength, Flexibility, Balance, Coordination, Neurological Exam (reflexes, strength, sensation), Functional exam
  • ANALYSIS: Information gained from the subjective and objective assessment is analyzed to provide a working diagnosis. Patrick will explain the injury, the diagnosis and describe healing timelines and provide clear expectations.
  • PLAN: Information from the assessment and analysis is used to create patient centered goals and an individualized treatment plan including what the PATIENT can do, what the Physiotherapist can do, and how they can work together as a TEAM.


MANUAL THERAPY (hands on treatment)

  • Massage techniques (myofascial release, trigger point therapy, soft tissue release...etc)
  • Instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization
  • Surgical scar therapy
  • Joint Mobilizations/Manipulations
  • Assisted Stretching
  • Muscle energy techniques

Treatment will ALWAYS include some form of manual therapy.


Specific individualized exercises are prescribed to patients based on their injury, their goals and their abilities. Patrick will spend time helping his patients do the exercises in a comfortable, well supervised environment and will provide specific instruction and progressions. All exercises are aimed at either managing pain, improving range of motion/strength/balance and improving quality of life. Remember, exercise is ALWAYS a crucial part of any SUCCESSFUL rehab program.


Specific exercises with diagrams and pictures that patients can easily incorporate into their lives in order to maintain/enhance gains made from treatment. TENS- used to manage pain and decrease swelling

EMS- Electrical Muscle Stimulation used to enhance muscle activation and strengthening


Education regarding proper posture and set-up/use of home/office equipment including desk/computer set-up, home environment.


Specific education regarding proper gait patterns


Appropriate prescription, fitting and use of various assistive devices including walkers, crutches, canes, braces, slings etc. Also includes appropriate progression of assistive devices.

Patrick may also recommend specific braces (eg. Knee braces, ankle braces, SI joint belts) and educate with proper fitting and use.
